On Wednesday, October 8, 93 Colorado schools participated in Walk to School Day 2008.  The purpose of this event is to increase awareness of the benefits of walking or bicycling to school for children and local communities. Studies have shown that children who are physically active do better in school and morning exercise is associated with increased activity throughout the day for children.

Fathers were specially encouraged to walk their children to school on October 8 as a way to connect with their children and have a direct impact on their daily lives. A recent study released by National Center for Fathering indicated that one of the greatest increases in father involvement over the past nine years has come in the form of  "walking or taking your child to school".

Walk to School Day 2009 will take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2009! For more information about Walk to School Day events taking place in your community,  please visit www.WalkToSchool.org.
