What does fatherhood mean to you?

It means being responsible and being there for your kids when they need you.

What is the best part of being a dad?

Every time I see them do something new and they are proud of it, it makes me proud of them. Just this weekend they started playing hockey for a team. I was a little worried  because they’re not great skaters just yet. I thought they might get upset. But they did a good job. It makes me proud to see them do so well.

What is your proudest moment as a dad?

Every day there is something to be proud of.

What do you and your children do for fun?

I like to bowl with my kids… just to see how funny they are.

What kind of dad do you strive to be?

I try to take my dad as an example. I want to be exactly like him.

Describe your funniest moment as a dad.

Honestly, every day my kids make me laugh.

What would you hope that your kids would say about you if asked what kind of a dad they have?

That I am a loving dad. That’s all I care about. I’m not a perfect dad by any means but as long as they know I love them, that’s all I can ask for.

What is the most important piece of advice you’ve received about fatherhood?

Just enjoy it because it goes fast. And they’re right, it does go fast.

In June Ian, otherwise known as Lappy, was named father of the year by the American Diabetes Association.
