2011 statistics indicate that El Paso County has the highest number of shaken baby deaths in the state. The 13-week ProDads program at The Center on Fathering in Colorado Springs teaches young men how to be nurturing fathers. Sterling man wins 'fatherhood' award

Father`s Day is a time set aside to honor the men in our lives who we call "dad." This year Tom Westfall, Sterling resident and father of two, will be awarded the especially high Father`s Day honor of being selected the Be There for Your Kids Outstanding Fatherhood Practitioner of the Year.

Study: Dads spending much more time with children

The role of mothers has changed, too, according to a Pew Research Center report that examines parents and parenting as U.S. marriage rates and traditional family households fall to historic lows.

How a father provides for his family relates to the attention he devotes to his children, the study found. College-educated men who tend to marry and get better jobs are more involved with their children than less skilled men struggling to get by. | Read story

On Tuesday, June 16th, volunteers from the Colorado Promoting Responsible Fatherhood Initiative answered calls from 32 viewers during the annual FOX31 Responsible Fatherhood call-in. Later that afternoon, volunteers took calls from 68 viewers during the annual Fathers Line 9 on 9News. Program brings more fathers to elementary school

Dads like John Sterling are welcome in any classroom. The problem is, in the neighborhood around Green Valley Ranch Elementary School, they do not always come.

"A lot of the students in my classes haven't met their fathers or their fathers haven't been in their lives," Amanda Cross, a second grade teacher at Green Valley Ranch, said.

On Saturday, May 21st, Cleo Parker Robinson, the Jefferson County Fatherhood Program and Positive Spin Magazine will host the 7th annual Step competition at Elitch Gardens. This year’s event has a unique twist in that it will also serve as a fundraiser for the Jefferson County Fatherhood Program. Program to give Routt County dads a helping hand

Stephen Trunkwalter said he was on the verge of moving back to Pennsylvania in December 2009, to be closer to family when providing special care for his son while working a full-time job as a single parent was proving overwhelming.

“It was a very difficult time,” Trunkwalter said Monday. “I was pretty much at a loss for who to turn to for help.”

A friend suggested he contact county human services. It turned out to be a life-changing suggestion. | Read story
